About Mr. Blackburn

Michael Blackburn, an accomplished musician and vocalist, who began playing music when he was only four years old, is a veteran of the stage, both as an actor/singer, and as a musician. Fortunately for Junipero Serra School, Michael is also passionate about teaching music. The 2017-18 school year is Michael Blackburn’s second year teaching music at Junipero Serra School, and the inaugural year of creating a strings orchestra. Through Michael’s tutelage, all 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students will learn to play the violin, cello, and/or viola. Michael’s vision is to grow the strings orchestra each year, so that in a few years’ time, the veteran musicians in the 7th and 8th grade are delighting audiences, while the students in the 4th grade (and even younger) are awaiting their opportunity to join the orchestra.

Similarly, Michael’s passion for teaching music will also include a band at Junipero Serra School. With his ability to play a variety of instruments, including, flute, cello, viola, saxophone, clarinet, piano, violin, trumpet, oboe, and bass, and his love of teaching, great opportunities await all JSS students.
