Athletic and Physical Education

Welcome JSS parents to our incomparable athletic program for the 2018-19 school year. We pride ourselves on enriching the lives of our students with fitness and exercise through sports while teaching them sportsmanship and team work by introducing them to competitive sports.

We believe in making every sport available to all our middle school students. Our after school sports program consists of the following:

Boys and Girls Basketball
Boys and Girls Bowling
Boys and Girls Flag Football
Boys and Girls Soccer
Boys and Girls Track & Field
Boys and Girls Volleyball

Practice and Game Schedule

There are no special requirements to participate in after school sports. We encourage ALL students in grades 5th through 8th to participate in the JSS sports program to develop an appreciation of sports and also to prepare them for participation during their high school years. Students must maintain a “C” average in classes and must receive no less than a “2” in “Conduct” and “Homework” to be eligible for participation.

If there are a large number of participants out for one sport, they may be separated into a JV and Varsity team. 8th grade students are ineligible to be on a JV team.

At the end of the school year, once all after school sports have concluded, we host an annual Sports Awards Night. The purpose of the awards night is to recognize all students’ participation in the after school sports program. Having the awards night also allows the students to applaud their fellow classmates.

The majority of the games are scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays with the exception of volleyball games which are generally scheduled on Mondays and Wednesdays. Most games are scheduled at home since JSS has one of, if not the nicest, athletic facilities in the league. As always, if you have any questions or concerns regarding the after school sports program, feel free to contact me directly. I am always available and willing to assist where I am able. I am looking forward to another great sports year. Go Mustangs!
